Time to Fertilize
April 11, 2016
It's beginning to warm up after a weekend of rain; so today is a good time to get out and fertilize while the ground is moist. We like to use organic fertilizers at least 2 times a year. This will help break up the hard soil and put natural elements back into the ground.
April Water Schedules
April 11, 2016
With temperatures rising but not yet in the 100 plus degrees; water schedules need to be evaluated. Especially for those who plan on leaving Phoenix for the summer it's important to get this done. The correct water depth for shrubs should be 18" and trees should be 24"-36". A ground probe is the best to get a proper reading. Do not worry about gallons, we are trying to get depth without water runoff. A typical schedule for a slow flow drip system to achieve these results should be watering at 1 time every 4-5 days this month for 2.5 to 3 hours. This should get you the 18" depth for shrubs. Trees will need to water for 4-6 hours to achieve 24"-36" at a low flow rate.
A bubbler system will not need to run for the same length of time as a drip system due to it's faster flow rate. A typical run time for plants on a bubbler system will be 20-30 min and for trees between 30-45 minutes. The bubbler heads should be turned down as much as possible to eliminate water runoff.
